Widgets can display articles, documents, events and eshop products.
There are 4 ways to configure the content to display in a widget:
1. You can display content from a certain folder:
a. Use the following folder selections in the widget setup to point to content in a particular folder :
Only display items in the folder
Include child folders for the above folder
2. You can use taxonomy to determine which content should be displayed.
Select the taxonomies in the taxonomy tree marked "Only show items tagged with the following taxonomies". This section returns all content tagged with your selections and does an "and" between taxonomy levels and an "or" for taxonomy items in the same level.
So, lets say for example that you have configured your widget to show items tagged with the following taxonomies:
Countries
The Americas
South America
Central America
Panama
Caribbean
What Community Manager will do for the widget is look for any content that has been tagged with:
Countries
and
The Americas
and
South America or Central America or Caribbean
and
Panama
3. You can use the taxonomy of the parent article currently displaying to determine which content should be displayed:
Select the taxonomies in the taxonomy tree marked "Inherit the following taxonomies from the parent article". This section returns all content tagged with the same taxonomies that belong to the current article that is displaying. Again, your selection does an "and" between taxonomy levels and an "or" for taxonomy items in the same level.
So if you create a widget that is set to inherit the Countries of the parent article. If you place that widget (using a tag) in a left hand menu article, then for example:
Article A has been tagged with the following taxonmies:
Countries
The Americas
South America
Central America
Article B has been tagged with the following taxonmies:
Countries
Australasia
Australia
New Zealand
When article A displays then the widget will return all content that has been tagged with:
Countries
and
The Americas
and
South America or Central America
When article B displays then the widget will return all content that has been tagged with:
Countries
and
Australasia
and
Australia or New Zealand
4. You can combine 2 and 3
You can use a combination of taxonomy selections (2) and parent taxonomies to inherit (3) to create additional and/or options.
So, using a similar example as above for article A - if on the widget you also specify in the "Only show items tagged with the following taxonomies" section that the widget must return:
News Articles
When article A displays then the widget will do a join an all the taxonomies and return all content that has been tagged with:
Countries
and
The Americas
and
South America or Central America
and
News Articles
