Some Key Take Home Messages From the Online Retailer Conference

Having attended numerous conferences at the Online Retailer Expo in Sydney a couple of weeks ago, there were several key messages that resonated throughout many of the talks.  Some of the messages were focused around the following:

A Large focus on the speed and delivery of content and content changes to websites: Many of the presenters spoke about how their most successful websites and campaigns all involved rapidly updating and changing content on their websites.  The constant ongoing split testing and the move towards personalization in their approach to selling was a very big focal point for many of them.

Building, maintaining and optimizing (segmenting) mailing lists for any website: This was a move towards personalisation of mailing lists, a focus on making sure you offer your list the sorts of things they are looking for.  They spoke about realising that not everyone on your list will be interested in the same types of offers and to keep the offers fresh and appealing to everyone on your list and to keep segmenting and profiling your list in order to offer them exactly what they are looking for at the right time.

Multichannel buying and the need to focus on the new emerging channels such as mobile: Many of the speakers indicated the huge shift towards multichannel purchasing.  There was a focus on the movement away from the normal offline \ online sales channels and more towards a focus on the different channels of mobile phone s, TV’s, and other not yet developed technologies.  Many of the online retailers are now focused on developing the right structures to be able to sell to people across all of the existing and soon to be available mediums.

Elcom are working towards delivering products and services that align with these concepts in order to remain an industry leader in our chosen field.
